Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini is reportedly set to hold a second meeting with club representatives over his future in Bergamo, with his long-term future at the Gewiss Stadium called into question in recent weeks.

According to Tuttomercato, Gasperini and Atalanta began formal discussions over his future last Tuesday and the two parties will now stage a second summit to discuss their options.

The 65-year-old has exceeded expectations during his time with the club, guiding them to the Champions League for the first time ever as well as reaching the final of the Coppa Italia in 2019, although ultimately losing out to Lazio in the end.

The 2022-23 season also ended with the confirmation of European football for next season after Atalanta secured their spot in the Europa League thanks to their fifth place finish in Serie A.

However, certain indications, particularly Gasperini’s recent comments during interviews and press conferences, have left many wondering if his reign is beginning to draw to a close.

Tuttomercato also writes that if Gasperini were to leave Atalanta, he would likely only be interested in picking up another ‘top’ job in Serie A.

Although, with Inter seeming set to stick with Simone Inzaghi, Jose Mourinho looking increasingly likely to stay on at Roma and Napoli being on the lookout for a manager who prefers a 4-3-3 system, the options in Italy are few and far between.
