With top target Marcelo Bielsa apparently set to turn them down and Porto's Andres Villas Boas just a dream, Gasperini has this evening become a serious contender.

The former Juve youth team boss is being heavily associated after an alleged discussion between Moratti and Preziosi this afternoon.

Although Gasperini was sacked by Genoa in November 2010, when he was replaced by Davide Ballardini, the attack-minded Coach is still contracted to the port club.

Former Roma tactician Claudio Ranieri is also an option for the Nerazzurri, as is Delio Rossi after he recently left Palermo.

Meanwhile, speculation also suggests that the two Presidents spoke about the future of Stephan El Shaarawy.

The 18-year-old, who spent last term on loan at Padova from Genoa, is being seriously pursued by Milan.

Inter are also very keen and Moratti took advantage of the meeting to discuss the attacking midfielder's situation.
