Gian Piero Gasperini admits he “didn’t expect to be here right now,” as Atalanta are within five points of leaders Juventus and they meet next week.

Not only have the Orobici notched up eight wins and a draw in the last nine rounds, including six consecutive victories, but they visit the Juventus Stadium next weekend.

“It’d be a lie if I said I expected to be here right now, and so close to Juve,” he told Sky Sport Italia after a 2-0 win at the Dall'Ara.

“At least we’re going into it in our best form. Juventus have had better days, but perhaps that’s not good for us, because they’ll want to fight back.

“Atalanta have never really done well in Turin, neither have I, so we’ll see. There’s a first time for everything… We won’t change our characteristics in Turin, but if you have the strength to attack certain teams, you can cause them serious problems.”

This afternoon the Bergamo Boys snatched a 2-0 victory away to Bologna through Andrea Masiello and Jasmin Kurtic.

“Today was not an easy match after the joy and praise we got from beating Roma. For a small spell in the first half we were under pressure, but overall we did really well and if anything could’ve scored more goals.

“We are very happy with what we’re doing, mustn’t put too much responsibility or expectation on ourselves, but I am so glad to see my team playing this football.”

Claudio Ranieri even said this week that there's no reason why Atalanta can't follow Leicester City's footsteps.

"People say that… I don't think it's possible in Italy, though."
