Roma boss Rudi Garcia admits his club are still “small” on the European stage, but can qualify in the Champions League.

The Giallorossi were on the end of an historic 7-1 mauling by Bayern Munich and lost 2-0 in Germany, but are nonetheless second in their group ahead of Manchester City and CSKA Moscow.

“Incidents can happen, we reflected on the situation and dealt with it, aware we were playing one of the best teams in the world right now,” Garcia told reporters at an event today.

“We were strong to not lose faith in ourselves and also intelligent by showing we can play in a different way. It was a sign of humility accepting there are teams out there stronger than we are, as you don’t become the best in a day.

“In Italy we are challenging, but in Europe we are still small.”

Serie A sides are struggling in the Champions League in general in recent years, so how can things improve?

“There are some models to follow. The Premier League has fantastic stadiums and going to the stadium has to feel like a celebration.

“However, you also need to be able to reach the stadium in comfort. In Italy we need new stadiums and to follow the German model.

“Roma are building their own stadium because it will be an advantage not just for the club, but above all for you fans.”
