The Giallorossi have gone from minus one to minus five at the top of the Serie A table following disappointing stalemates.

“It’s true we aren’t particularly consistent, even during the course of the same match. It’s only normal that when we don’t do as well the media will criticise, but this has to be balanced and objective.

“We have been drawing too many games recently and that is a problem, but I always think positive to achieve victory.

“The season is a marathon and every weekend you must be at 100 per cent, do everything and more to win. So for us there is only Fiorentina, Fiorentina and Fiorentina.”

The Coppa Italia against Empoli midweek saw many Roma fans rebel against Garcia, maintaining the winning penalty in extra time was unfair to the Tuscans.

“I heard people say I have become more Italian: that can only be a positive and I’m happy to be more Italian,” insisted the Frenchman.

“I work in football to give the fans pleasure and can understand they weren’t happy after the Empoli game because we weren’t effective enough in attack. It can happen to concede a goal.

“Perhaps we can say there was a penalty, but we cannot say it wasn’t a penalty. This is why I ask for goal line technology and not video replays to help referees.

“The official was in the best position to judge. I am part of the 50 per cent of people who say it was a penalty, but I know 50 per cent saw it differently.

“We must put faith in the referees, they are honest people. The team also needs the faith of the fans, because they play better when there is support. We are currently in the running for three trophies, so I don’t know what they have to be negative about…”
