Rudi Garcia felt Roma “deserved a second goal” against Juventus, but “didn’t take enough risks and felt a negative atmosphere.”

The nine-point gap at the top of the table remains intact, but the Giallorossi can be happy they fought back with 10 men to snatch a 1-1 draw.

“It was a very tactical game and in these situations they can be decided by set plays. There were few real chances from open play,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“I retain Roma’s reaction was exceptional, as playing with 10 men and a goal down to then play at the end the way we did shows this team is alive and has character.”

Strangely, the Giallorossi played better after Vasilis Torosidis was sent off.

“This side would never play for a draw on home turf, even against the top team. When 1-0 down we had to take risks, even down to 10 men, and we pressed Juventus with belief to the end.

“Unfortunately we were unable to get the second goal, which we deserved for our performance in the last half-hour.”

Garcia was asked why there wasn’t enough movement from forwards to inspire those playing from behind.
“Morgan De Sanctis only saw one shot on target and it went in. We know playing against the top team with the best defence in Serie A, chances are going to be at a premium.

“It is true we didn’t do enough down the flanks and should’ve taken more risks as well as our possession.

“We have been drawing a lot recently, especially at home, and a team that always feels support and confidence from its fans will be boosted.

“The team feels a negative atmosphere around them and therefore don’t want to take risks in case they get criticised.”

Garcia was asked whether the Scudetto was now beyond Roma.

“There are 13 games to go, but what I can say now is what I’ve said for a while: we must try to defend second place. That’s what we did tonight, as we increased our advantage over third by an extra point and being solid in second is the only way to attack first.

“Will we be geared up to win the title next season? There’s still a few to play this year…”
