Roma legend Giacomo Losi is delighted with Rudi Garcia’s renewal at the club, but has labelled Mehdi Benatia’s behaviour as childish.

The French Coach this afternoon signed a contract extension that will keep him at Stadio Olimpico until 2018, following his excellent debut Serie A season.

Benatia meanwhile, despite excelling for the Giallorossi himself, appears to have been publicly courting a move away from the club this week, something that has not impressed the 78-year-old.

“Garcia’s renewal is an extremely positive piece of news from my point of view,” Losi told Tuttomercatoweb.com. “You absolutely cannot let a Coach like him get away from you.

“Now there is a project that is well underway with a Coach on a long contract. There needs to be two or three additions to improve the squad as much as possible, without letting the pieces of the jigsaw go that are already in place.”

The former defender’s mood then changed as he was asked about the actions of Moroccan international Benatia.

“Players should shut up a bit! Often, with their quotes they ruin the trust the fans place in them.

“The club must intervene and it definitely will. Let’s leave the club to work it through seeing as they have done well up until now.

“The point is that you shouldn’t be making certain comments. He has been childish. Maybe he wants to ride on the momentum in order to get a better contract, but he needs to avoid such things.”

Finally, Losi was asked whether he believes Roma can challenge Juventus for the Scudetto next season.

“In my opinion they need to reinforce, not too much because otherwise there will be confusion. The team is already very strong, there is belief and that comes from having had a great season.

“It was impossible to get the number of points Juventus did, but no one expected a season of the sort Roma had, even themselves.

“The team can compete at the top level and I’m sure they will do that.”
