Christophe Galtier expects an attacking-minded PSG against Juventus and believes Angel Di Maria wanted to return to the Parc des Prince as an opponent: ‘It’s a shame he’s not coming back.’

The Argentinean winger has been ruled out of tomorrow’s Champions League opening group stage game between PSG and Juventus.

El Fideo trained with the rest of the team in the morning but didn’t join the group in Paris. He signed for Juventus on a free transfer in the summer after a seven-year spell with the Ligue 1 giants.

“It’s a shame Di Maria can’t come back to the Parc des Princes,” Galtier said at a press conference.

“He made history at this club, an exemplary player who performed very well. I can’t say I am pleased that he is out because he is injured. I know he would have liked to play. When he is involved, he brings quality and experience. He has a fantastic left for and is excellent at set pieces, but I am sure that whoever comes in [to replace him] will be a top player.”

What does he make of Juventus?

“They are a team with a lot of experience, it’s difficult to beat them. They are having a bit of a tricky time at the moment but have only conceded two goals.

“It’s difficult to create chances because they are well organised and play with intensity. They work hard defensively and have quality players who can be dangerous in counter-attack with late runs.

“I am confident about our ability to play the game and play to win it. The players understand the system and we have to focus on our attacking play.

“More pressure on me? Not at all, I accepted pressure when I accepted this job, coaching this magnificent team.”

When asked whether PSG are the favourite to lift the trophy, the French coach replied smiling.

“No, there are always eight or nine clubs that can win the Champions League every year. Some favourites don’t go all the way. There’s club ambition to win it, whether we are favourite or not.”

Is Vitinha available against Juventus?

“Yes, he trained individually this morning but was involved in the rest of the session.”

Gigio Donnarumma has become the regular starter between the sticks in Paris this season, but Sky Sport Italia asked for confirmation on whether the Italy international would start tomorrow night.

“Are you Italian? So would you prefer an Italian goalkeeper?” joked Galtier.

“As for the hierarchy, that is how it is at the moment, I am pleased with Gigio’s performances, Keylor is working hard and will be available if needed. I am happy with what Donnarumma is doing and his contribution to the team.”

PSG are the Ligue 1 leaders, having collected five wins and one draw in the opening six games of the season.
