Adriano Galliani has reportedly told Milan’s players to target seventh and the Europa League.

The fourth and fifth placed sides in Serie A secure qualification for the competition, while sixth also grants entry if the two Coppa Italia finalists are already in Europe.

With Juventus, Fiorentina, Lazio and Napoli in the semi-finals of the Coppa, that seems likely, but it appears Galliani may be relying on a complex set of results.

With Juventus, Fiorentina, Lazio and Napoli in the semi-finals of the Coppa, that seems likely, but it appears Galliani may be relying on a complex set of results.

They'd need the Coppa Italia Finalists to have already qualified for Europe via Serie A AND for an Italian club to win the Europa League while already having a place in the competition secure for next season.

For example, if Napoli won the Europa League and were already qualified in the top six of Serie A, it would open up a seventh spot.

“With Verona it finished 2-2, it wasn’t a great game,” Galliani is quoted as telling the squad by several Italian outlets.

“That said, 40 seconds from the end we were winning, and if we’d won the critics would be kind. You players need to cut out those 40 seconds that cost the goal against Verona.

“We have 12 games in which we have to do as well as we can. We have to play them all as if they were head-to-head confrontations.

“Before us is the goal of seventh place, which means Europa League.”
