The transfer guru is set to leave the Rossoneri once their sale to Chinese investors goes through, ending a tenure of over 30 years at the club.

“If it ends in a month, that’s fine, or it could end today,” Galliani told Radio Deejay.

He has been linked with a job as the new President of the Lega Serie A.

“Football is the passion of my life. I would not accept the role of Lega President because I don’t like it and it doesn’t excite me. I am more excited at seeing the 12-year-olds in our academy or a third division game.

“At the end of 2013 I had a big offer to work in China. Then my master (President Silvio Berlusconi) said I couldn’t go and I obeyed.

“I’m not sure it is a good idea to reduce Serie A to 18 teams, but I do know that we’ll never get enough clubs to vote for it. You need 14 votes to pass that reform and at least seven or eight of them risk relegation every year, so they’re not going to be in favour of that.”

Until the Milan sale goes through, Galliani will continue to lead their transfer negotiations. Is it true that agents are the worst aspect of modern football?

“They cost a great deal, but are part of the star system. If you want to get Angelina Jolie for your movie, you have to go through her agent.

“It is true that the price-tags of young players are going through the roof, but it’s positive that now clubs are thinking about young Italian players. Before Serie A used to be the destination, now it’s seen as more of a stepping stone.”

Can Milan go for the Scudetto soon?

“I never did gamble. I just observe what is happening this year and I have to say it looks pretty good.”
