On top of preparations for the second leg of the Champions League semi-final, Milan and Inter could also be set to do battle in the transfer market, as both clubs are reportedly monitoring four of the same targets.

Both teams at San Siro are widely reported to be in the market for a new forward. For the Rossoneri, it’s a case of bringing in somebody to take the pressure off 36-year-old Olivier Giroud after the failure of Divock Origi’s arrival, while the Nerazzurri are on the lookout for a longer-term partner for Lautaro Martinez.

According to Il Quotidiano Sportivo, both clubs are said to be interested in acquiring recently-capped Italian international Mateo Retegui from Tigre, where he currently leads the Argentina Primera Division’s goalscoring charts for the 2023 season.

Another option in attack for both sides is 23-year-old Belgian striker Lois Openda from Lens, who is up to 19 goals in his debut season in Ligue Un, outsourcing Lionel Messi and Neymar in the process.

Closer to home, there are also two young players in Serie A who both clubs are interested in, namely Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini and Empoli’s Tommaso Baldanzi, aged 19 and 20 respectively.
