Simone Inzaghi’s men have qualified for the knockout stages for the first time since 2011-12, we take a look at the starting line-up in the second leg of the last 16 against Olympique Marseille.

The Nerazzurri have been waiting for 10 years since the last time the club managed to qualify for the second phase of the Champions League.

Champions League | All Italian teams can still qualify

It was the season of Gian Piero Gasperini, Claudio Ranieri and Andrea Stramaccioni at San Siro, and even the Beneamata managed to get out of the group with LOSC Lille, Trabzonspor and CSKA Moscow.

But it all stopped in the round of 16 against Olympique Marseille, who secured an important 1-0 win in the first leg at the Stade Velodrome.

The second leg seemed set to be extended to extra time at San Siro, as Diego Milito had given the Nerazzurri the lead after 75 minutes.

But Brandao scored an important away goal after 92 minutes and Giampaolo Pazzini’s penalty goal in the 96th minute was not enough to see the Nerazzurri qualify for the quarter-finals.

Ranieri was in charge when the Nerazzurri played their last knockout game in the Champions League. Below, you can take a look at his starting XI for the second leg against the Ligue 1 side.
