“I saw each one of their games, especially those against Sporting and Porto. They have a great coach and they play an entertaining football,” the Portuguese told A Bola.

“We want to win, but it’s going to be a difficult game, I’ve warned everyone.

"We have problems in defence with Smalling and Kumbulla who will be out of action. Midfielders and strikers are all available even if El Shaarawy is not 100% fit yet.”

Has he solved the problems with Dzeko?

“Yes, completely,” the coach replied.

Why are Roma struggling against the top teams this season?

“We can’t deny it. I think the only problem in those games was the result. Performances have hardly been disappointing. We forced Juventus to play a defensive game, they scored two goals from three shots on target.

"We played badly in the derby and the second half of the Atalanta clash, other than that we’ve always been competitive and I never felt my job was at risk," he claimed.

“We sit third in the table and many initially predicted we would be in sixth or seventh place. We are playing well, we are motivated and the goal is to return to the Champions League. We are aware that there are six-seven strong teams in Serie A.

"The league is among the five best championships in Europe, with the highest number of teams fighting for the Champions League. It’s difficult to predict what will happen, but our target is to qualify for the Champions League.”
