Fiorentina boss Sinisa Mihajlovic has asked the club to sign Milan's Antonio Cassano, reports the Corriere dello Sport.

Mihajlovic wants to rebuild the Viola after a disappointing campaign and believes Cassano could be the catalyst to success.

It is being claimed that the tactician has asked the Della Valle family, who own the Viola, to gift him the services of the forward.

Fiorentina will try to tempt the Rossoneri into a sale by offering Adrian Mutu in return, as well as possibly allowing Milan to do a deal for Viola ace Riccardo Montolivo.

However, the report does come just a day after the Italian champions seemed to rule out a Cassano exit.

Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani said he expected the player to remain, while Cassano's agent also dismissed stories of a switch.

Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri has now also added his opinion on the matter. "He'll stay, there are no doubts," he noted. "Cassano will certainly be here next season."

The Viola almost signed Cassano in January 2010, but the individual decided to stay at Sampdoria before his move to Milan a year later.
