The Gialloblú will be playing against a somewhat crestfallen Viola side, who are trying to pick up pace after recent and decisive defeats to their direct Scudetto competitors.

“This is a more difficult match than the others,” he said. “If you look at Fiorentina's defeats against Napoli and Roma, they weren't entirely deserved.

“Against the Giallorossi in particular they always held control of the game.

“Fiorentina are a team with quality, they're strong in their individual players, physically and technically alike.

“They're the team who impressed me the most. Today I think they are the strongest team and in the best condition, alongside Napoli.

“It's going to be a game in which we can expect to suffer, just like it was against Juventus and, in the first half, against Lazio. We'll have to face it showing spirit of sacrifice, trying to close the gaps.

“Walking into tomorrow's game with a small advantage over our direct competitors is certainly for the best, but that doesn't mean we'll face Fiorentina with a lax attitude.

“We deserve credit for the advantage we picked up, but we mustn't loosen our grip because there are still very many games to go. We come into the match with no fear.”

The supporters of the Gialloblu are banned from the Artemio Franchi for this game for security reasons, which represents a further handicap.

“The absence of our supporters is going to weigh us down a lot because we know their importance in games away and at home.

“We'll try doing our best for all those who cannot join us.

“[Fiorentina Coach] Paulo Sousa? He's doing an excellent job. He inherited a good team from [Vincenzo] Montella. He kept that style of play but made his players more aggressive.”
