The Viola are on the look-out for a reinforcement at the back and have also been linked with Jan Vertonghen, although almost all sources suggest the Tottenham man is only in Florence for a vacation.
According to SportMediaset, the real target is Sunderland centre-back Diakite, who only left Lazio for the Premier League this summer.
It is believed the offer is to take him on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season for €2m.
The 26-year-old French Malian has managed only seven Premier League appearances this season.
The other alternative is Milan’s Philippe Mexes, but he is believed to be closer to Turkish side Trabzonspor.
