Primavera youth team Coach Emiliano Bigica is taking charge of training for the moment and could well be on the bench for the rest of the season.

However, Alfredo Pedullà of Sportitalia insists the Viola are in talks with Montella for a second stint at the club, having already been their Coach from 2012 to 2015.

Montella is currently out of work, having been fired by both Milan and Sevilla last season.

Di Francesco had been the favourite to join Fiorentina, but despite the fact he was sacked by Roma last month, he cannot be appointed until June.

That is because the Italian rules bar any Coach from working for two Serie A clubs within the same season.
