Former Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero had to be escorted out of Marassi and has further irritated the fans by complaining they ‘think they own the club.’

The Blucerchiati are still looking for a new owner after Ferrero had to give up his role due to legal action over fraudulent bankruptcy of his other businesses.

“The Sampdoria fans didn’t understand me,” he told RAI 2 show Belve.

“They insult me at Marassi because I said their anthem was ugly and not as nice as the Roma one. They started hurling insults and I did not say oh I’m sorry, I apologise.

“I don’t care, because the fans think they own the club. They ought to try working here.”

It is safe to say that Ferrero, who was born and raised in Rome, is not welcome back in Genoa at Sampdoria.

When he tried to attend a recent Serie A match, he had to be escorted out by police because the fans were threatening to riot when they realised he was present.

The 71-year-old bought the club in 2014 and lasted as President until December 2021, when forced to step down after he was imprisoned for fraudulent bankruptcy.

He used to run a chain of cinemas and never denied that he was a Roma supporter, even though he was President of Sampdoria.
