Milan CEO Marco Fassone admits Nikola Kalinic “has had difficulty settling”, and hints they’ll move for another striker this summer.

The Rossoneri scored only 56 goals in their 38 Serie A games this season, at least five fewer than all the teams who finished above them.

“The attack is one of the areas we’re certainly worked on,” Fassone confirmed on Radio Anch’io Sport.

“We haven’t scored enough goals and that’s clear to everyone. I won’t make any promises, but I know that when you talk about the history of Milan you talk about great strikers.

“Kalinic is a player who has always score, but he’s had difficult settling, even though he’s improved in recent games.

“Mario Mandzukic or Karim Benzema? There’s nothing on those players.”

Fassone also discussed the club’s future plans.

“Milan must play for the Champions League. UEFA has made it easier by opening it up to fourth place, but it’s crucial for clubs like ours to enter the Champions League.

“Unfortunately we were in a group of more than four teams who were pushing for it.

“Among other things though we took points off all the teams that finished above, aside from Juventus.

“Without being recriminatory, if you factor in that we lost eight points against Benevento and Verona, with just those eight points we’d have been fighting for the Champions League

“Last summer we were aware that we needed a small revolution, and a big transfer campaign was the consequence of that.

“I’m convinced that to improve the team we only need two or three quality signings. We need to improve the squad to give depth to the bench.

“The financial fair play sanctions will be restrictive, so a selective and targeted transfer campaign will be needed.

“That doesn’t necessarily mean that all the players have to be guaranteed starters, we have two or three areas of the pitch we need to work on.

“We have a very young team with a lot of Italians in the squad. We’re certainly lacking experience, only [Leonardo] Bonucci brings that.

“The arrival of two or three players with a little more experience could certainly help these kids.”
