Former Milan director Marco Fassone agrees somewhat with Monza CEO Adriano Galliani, claims UEFA must scrap FFP this year and feels the chaos in the Lega Serie A repels potential foreign investors.

The former Rossoneri CEO works as a consultant for the investors in football and has sided with Galliani’s proposal of playing next season in a calendar year, resuming the current campaign after the summer.

“The banks, funds, acquisitions and financing have shut down their engines,” Fassone told Tuttosport. “They are waiting to understand what will happen in the world.

“After I read [Monza CEO Adriano] Galliani’s proposal, which is very fascinating, I sent him a message. I agree that football should stop and resume in August or September, but the knot of his proposal is the transfer market this summer.

“The teams could not operate in order to not distort the values. The problem is that if you move the transfer market to the end of the year, you make it impossible for clubs to fix the cases damaged by the virus.

“By moving the market too far, many would run out of oxygen. The economic system of the clubs is at risk and many will need to dive into the market this summer. They will have to sell players to make up for their losses.”

Fassone has claimed the associations will need to loosen up their strict regime when football resumes, to help clubs from staying afloat.

He also pointed out how the ongoing debate in Italian football is one of the reasons foreign investors tend to avoid the country.

“Structural measures must be put in place, UEFA must allow a sort of ‘free year’, or the budget for this season can’t be calculated for admission to the Cups.

“Furthermore, the requirements from the Federcalcio to participate in the next Championships must be reviewed. With the current budgets, it’s impossible for many to respect them.

“I’m disappointed by the weakness of the Lega Serie A as an institution. In the eyes of an external observer, as I am right now, I’m sorry for the perception of a League at the mercy of so many different ideas and thoughts.

“Abroad they wouldn’t even dream of creating a debate like the one that has been going on in Italy in recent weeks. Therefore, investors turn to Spain, England and Germany.”
