Carlos Tevez has officially announced his decision to hang up his boots and retire from professional football.

The 38-year-old Argentinian striker made his last appearance for Boca Juniors 13 months ago in a Copa de la Liga match against Racing Club, and now he’s decided to make his retirement official. The former Juventus and Manchester City striker now plans to enter the world of coaching.

Speaking to Argentine TV, Tevez announced his retirement from professional football, with one of the reasons being the death of his adoptive father.

“I have retired, I confirm it. I have stopped playing because I have lost my biggest fan and also my motivation. Now I am enjoying life, my family, my business. I had many offers but there were very important changes for my family. As a player I gave everything I had. I am more than calm.”

The 38-year-old Argentinian forward then touched on his year-long farewell and future plans.

“In 2021 I said to myself: ‘I won’t play any more’. I called my agent and told him, then I called Riquelme and asked him to organise the press conference. Now I would like to coach.”

Tevez spent two years of his career in Italy with Juventus, where he won two Scudetti, a Coppa Italia and a Supercoppa Italiana title. The Argentinian made 96 appearances across all competitions for the club, scoring 50 goals and providing 19 assists.

Tevez also had successful spells with Manchester United, Manchester City and Boca Juniors, displaying his quality at a number of clubs.
