Lazio duo Mattia Zaccagni and Manuel Lazzari both unexpectedly pulled out from the Azzurri’s training camp in Coverciano, sparking controversy.

Coach Roberto Mancini seemed disappointed when discussing the pair in a press conference yesterday, noting that ‘they surprised me too. I thought they were fine but they told me yesterday that they had problems and we sent them home.’ The pair are now unavailable for this evening’s Nations League clash against Germany, reducing Mancini’s options a little.

As reported by La Repubblica, neither the FIGC nor Lazio provided an explanation behind the pair’s Coverciano withdrawal, and many now believe that Zaccagni and Lazzari both wanted to go on holiday early.

This is reportedly nothing new, as several players in the past left the Azzurri training retreat for the same reason. With around 40 players called up, there is a concrete chance that the Lazio pair simply decided to kickstart their summer break early.

  1. Zaccagni and lazy arrival should be called by la national again if its true.

It’s pathetic we have little or no talent at all because serie a teams keep picking forigners why ??

  2. Vincenzo, things are about to change. There is a very high possibility that teams that field 5 or 6 italian players will receive fiscal advantages. In respect of Lazzari, I have no issues here at all. He was awful against Argentina. As for Zaccagni, it would have been good to have him available but he chose not to so he should be begging to be called up again. Finally, this reminds me a lot going back to the failure at Germany’s WC 1974 where we were favourites and did not get out of the group stage. We renewed completely and suffered in the the run but in 1978 we came 4th and we were the only side that beat Argentina in Buona Aires in front of 100,000 fans 1 nil and played the best football there. May I not remind you of 1982! All National sides have a dip. We definitely did not deserve just after winning but it has happened so now, all we have to do is rebuild and we have definitely the best coach to do this. Lets face it, he did want to rebuild, just not this quickly. Who cares for the Nations League, Mancio is right to use it to rebuild. Sempre Forza Italia

  3. It should be an honour to play for your country.

Zaccagni and lazzari should never be recalled again. We have little talent as it is come on serie a teams player more young italians

  4. There are many Italian players not just these two who don’t deserve the honor of representing Italy internationally. None of them should ever be recalled again as they have disgraced themselves, the country and the sport. You should be so proud to represent your country, giving every ounce of energy and sweat on the pitch, with a never die attitude , bleeding the colors of the Azzurri which starts with the singing of the National anthem. If you can’t commit to this philosophy, we don’t want you , and get the hell out!

  5. he probably felt zaniolo would want to get at his wife. so he wants to run home. paranoia is a serious thing
