Everton have thanked their former player and current Udinese forward Gerard Deuolfeu for his role in convincing striker Beto to move from Udine to Goodison Park.

The Toffees officially announced Beto’s signing on a permanent transfer from Udinese on Wednesday afternoon for a fee in excess of €30m.

Shortly after the news was made public, Deuolfeu tweeted a photo of himself with Beto in Udinese colours with the message: “Enjoy the Toffees lad.”

Then, Everton’s official twitter account responded with a quote from their latest acquisition, which read: “I talked to Gerard Deulofeu the day before I travelled. He told me Everton is a big club, has crazy fans, they love you and it is a really good club to play for.”

Everton later added: “Thanks for the assist!”

Deulofeu scored a total of eight goals from his 75 appearances across all competitions during his time with Everton, joining on loan for the 2013-14 season, before re-signing permanently in 2015.

He joined Milan on loan for the second half of the 2016-17 season, before heading out to Barcelona and Watford. Deuolfeu ended up back in Serie A in 2020, joining Udinese, where he has remained since.
