Switzerland midfielder Remo Freuler is only the second player to be involved in a goal and sent off in the same game at the Euros, as he was shown a red card the 78th minute of the match against Spain.
The Atalanta player had helped the Swiss to equalise to 1-1 through Xherdan Shaqiri 10 minutes earlier, as Spain have dominated possession in the quarter-final played in St. Petersburg.
English referee Michael Oliver decided to send off Freuler, who slid in to win the ball back and caught Moreno with the follow-through after making contact with the ball.
Oliver immediately went for the red card and VAR didn’t change his decision and Freuler is, according to Opta, the second player – after Nuno Gomes of Portugal from Euro 2000 – to be involved in a goal and get a red card in the same game at the Euros.
