Luis Enrique believes Roma ‘can really push Juve and take the title’ in the forthcoming season.

The Spaniard is now in charge of Barcelona, whom the Giallorossi will face this evening, but spent a season at Stadio Olimpico, and gave his assessment of the team.

“They look good,” Enrique told Roma’s official website when asked about the team.

“They are in the Champions League again and I think the new signings and the hard work over the last few years will take them closer than ever to Juve in the league.

“Rudi Garcia? He’s been very good. He’s in his third season now. His first year was spectacular, going head to head with Juventus for the title, playing great football and coming close to taking the Scudetto.

“Last year was similar, but Juve were almost unstoppable and it was a tougher ask, but with the signings he’s made this summer I think they can really push Juve and take the title.

“It’d be great, I hope it all goes well because the fans are so passionate and it’s a city which is close to the team.”

Barcelona defeated Juventus in last year’s Champions League final, but doesn’t think his side will be able to dominate the tournament for years to come.

“The Champions League is a special tournament which never has a single dominant side.

“Every year there are teams who nobody counts on at the start of the season who then reach the quarter finals and the semis, even the final.

“Roma’s fate depends a lot on the draw – like the rest of us – then we’ll see how the season pans out."
