The Italy international has been linked with a summer transfer away from the Giallorossi, given the club’s flurry of signings.

Rumours have touted the former Milan man for a €16m move to Torino, but El Shaarawy is adamant he is happy with where he stands at Roma.

“We are training, we’re only at the beginning but there is great enthusiasm,” the 25-year-old told reporters while on his side’s pre-season tour of the United States.

“In any great team there is competition, that’s normal and it isn’t a problem for me.

“It’s our job, we always look to give our best. I’m not thinking about leaving Roma because I am happy here.

“I have spoken to the club and to the boss and I am calm. I know what the club want from me and visa versa.”

El Shaarawy is targeting a recall to the Italy national team, now coached by Roberto Mancini.

“I’m thinking about it. Physically I’m fine and my target is to improve on what I did last year.

“I want to get my place in the Italy squad back.”
