Milan confirm they could keep Stephan El Shaarawy to replace China-bound Luiz Adriano, rejecting a Roma loan.

Brazilian forward Luiz Adriano is heading to Chinese club Jiangsu Suning FC and Milan Channel confirmed this afternoon the exchange of contracts is in progress.

Due to red tape issues, it will not be made official for another four to six days, but a deal has been done for a reported €14m plus bonuses.

It remains to be seen how the Rossoneri will replace the striker in their squad and there are at the moment two main options.

La Gazzetta dello Sport claims they could sign Marco Borriello from Carpi, but Milan Channel have already denied that is a possibility.

What the official television station did confirm was that El Shaarawy could instead remain at the club rather than be loaned out again.

The Little Pharaoh had been sent to Monaco over the summer with an option to buy that would become mandatory at the 25th competitive appearance.

He played 24 games and was then dropped, as the French club did not want to make his stay permanent.

Roma were very close to securing El Shaarawy in a similar deal, beating competition from Genoa and Lazio, but Luiz Adriano’s departure has changed the situation.

Now Milan Channel confirm the Italy international could well remain at San Siro for the rest of the season and fight for his place.

Rudi Garcia’s sacking at Roma has also affected negotiations, as El Shaarawy wants playing time ahead of Euro 2016.
