The ‘Pharaoh’ is 22 today and went close to scoring a great goal on Sunday night, only for Fiorentina’s ‘keeper Neto to tip the ball over the bar.

“Obviously I’d have preferred to celebrate with a goal and a win like two years ago,” he told Milan Channel today.

“Against Fiorentina we lacked effectiveness. We were less aggressive in comparison to other games but, all in all, it was a good performance.

“Despite the only point achieved, we were still able to draw some confidence from it.

“Actually, we shouldn’t be upset because of the draw – in fact, we need to grow and improve much more, but we are happy with our performance.

“Unfortunately we couldn’t but draw, but luckily we’ve got the chance to pick ourselves up already on Wednesday.”

El Shaarawy says that Milan already have a plan for the game in Sardinia.

“The game against Cagliari will be difficult because we’ll have to stay tight and then hit on the counter.

“We shall be very determined to do well from the first minute if we want to win and we should enter the pitch with the right spirit.

“Yes, Cagliari have played on Saturday but I don’t think it will be a great advantage because we still have a deep squad.

“With the games against Cagliari and Palermo, this will be a decisive week for us as we need to win all six points, although it won’t be easy because both teams are very well organised.”

El Shaarawy has not scored in competitive matches since August 2013, but he feels that things are about to change in the near future.

“Physically I feel well and I am happy to have played the full 90 minutes. I shouldn’t be upset because I didn’t score – I just have to keep following this route.”
