The 27-year-old was long mentioned as one of the prime targets after the Viola sold Alberto Gilardino and Santiago Silva during the January window.

Sky Sport Italia claim El Hamdaoui turned down numerous other offers from around Europe so that he could complete his move to Fiorentina.

The Moroccan international who played for Holland at Under-21 level has also been at Tottenham, Derby County, Willem II and AZ Alkmaar before moving to Ajax in July 2010.

He’ll be the second striker to join Fiorentina this week after Amauri completed his transfer from Juventus.
