Massimiliano Allegri prepares to face his former club Cagliari and is confident “Maxi Lopez can do well at Milan.”

The last few days have been chaotic in the Rossoneri camp, as a last-ditch bid to sign Carlos Tevez from Manchester City fell through, so they picked up Lopez on loan from Catania.

“Maxi Lopez is a very physically and technically gifted striker, so he can do very well at Milan. Over the next few days he’ll undergo a series of medicals and we’ll see when he can start training with us,” said the Coach in his press conference.

Allegri put the derby defeat behind him by beating Novara in Serie A, then Lazio in Thursday’s Coppa Italia quarter-final.

“The lads put in a good game against Lazio, aside from a few early defensive errors. We created many chances and this bodes well for the future.

“Cagliari are a side who play great football and tend to really raise their game when facing the big clubs.”

Allegri admitted to problems amid an injury crisis that has ruled out Kevin-Prince Boateng, Alberto Aquilani, Alexandre Pato, Alexander Merkel, Mathieu Flamini, Gennaro Gattuso, Mario Yepes and Antonio Cassano.

“Tomorrow we should have Christian Abbiati, but Djamel Mesbah is still in doubt, as he hadn’t played in a while. We’ve got problems, but someone will play, that’s for sure!

“Stephan El Shaarawy is putting in some important performances, so he just needs to relax, play and grow. He’ll probably start from the bench tomorrow, but is becoming a precious element.”
