“This is an important match and we want to keep hold of third place in the table,” said the Coach in his Press conference, needing just one point to be sure of Champions League football.

“It’ll be my 50th game for Roma, but I hope there will be many more and, as with everything, it’s an initial building block.

“We’ve got to work hard and give a sense of consistency to the team, our mentality and ideas. Juventus won a great deal, not just under Max Allegri, and are accustomed to success. That is a big advantage for the club.

“Over the last few years, Roma have always been a step behind. We need to improve in many areas and reinforce the squad where we are lacking. The biggest step forward will be if we treat every fixture the same way, something that Juventus are experts at.

“We’ve had a few too many defeats at home in Serie A, but not in the Champions League, and again that’s part of the growth process, turning the Stadio Olimpico into a fortress. Juventus build most of their tournament victories with a strong home record.

“The primary objective is to enter the Champions League, both because of the prestige, but also growing the mentality. It’s not to send a message to anyone else, but to ourselves and to help build our ambitions.

“I think Roma have grown a great deal over the last year, but there’s a long way to go yet.”

Di Francesco was asked about the line-up tomorrow evening and gave some clues.

“Edin Dzeko, Alisson, Alessandro Florenzi, Aleksandar Kolarov, Daniele De Rossi and Stephan El Shaarawy will start, then we’ll see about the others.”
