“It’s a unique opportunity and I thank everyone at Sassuolo, from the shop workers to the fans, the directors and the players.

“I also thank doctor [Giorgio] Squinzi [the owner] for the confidence he showed in me. Sassuolo will remain in my heart.

“Roma? This is a strong team with interesting profiles which has unfortunately come up against a great team like Juventus in recent years. This is a top-level team.

“Having experienced it in person, I know the support of the fans is paramount. I’m convinced they’ll be our 12th man on the pitch, the Curva can transmit something more to us and help the players.

“I want to create a sense of belonging to this shirt.”
