Paulo Dybala says he ‘scared’ his girlfriend with his goal celebration and admits he ‘disobeyed’ José Mourinho.

The Argentinean striker was decisive in a 2-1 win over the Tuscans at the Castellani with a goal and an assist.

He has already netted three goals in his first six Serie A appearances with the Giallorossi.

La Joya celebrated his goal by sucking his thumb, a gesture that usually means footballers have a new baby in their family.

“My girlfriend was worried, but it’s not because of a baby,” Dybala told DAZN.

“It’s because of Vina, we drink mate together and that’s why I celebrated like that.”

Lorenzo Pellegrini missed a spot kick with Roma up 2-1 and Dybala was asked why he hadn’t stepped up for the penalty.

“We don’t talk about it before games. I had already scored and Pellegrini needed it to boost his confidence. It was the right thing to do. If there’s another one, we’ll decide at that moment who will take it.”

Can Roma aspire to win the Scudetto and Europa League?

“We go step by step, we must have the right mentality in every game. We had lost the previous two games and now we have another important match.”

Mourinho often spoke to Dybala during the game, while La Joya hugged Nicolò Zaniolo in the dug-out after his goal.

“I didn’t have much freedom, so Mourinho wanted me to stay closer to Abraham to press their central defenders,” Dybala told Sky Sport Italia.

“After the goal, I disobeyed and I got more freedom. I was supposed to stay more in the middle. But it’s something that has to do with my characteristics.

“We knew it would have been hard for Zaniolo to play because of his injury, but he’s shown availability and desire to be with the group. The coach called him and he was happy to join us, it was a very important message.”

Roma earned 13 points in the opening six Serie A games and are just one point behind leaders Milan, Napoli and Atalanta.
