The Bianconeri had negotiated an exchange deal with Manchester United that would have seen him swap clubs with Romelu Lukaku.

However, the plug was pulled on the proposal, with reports ranging from the Red Devils refusing to meet his wage demands to the player rejecting them.

Sportitalia, meanwhile, claims there could still be movement as Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur are both understood to have come forward.

Today could also see the Argentine hold long-awaited talks with Maurizio Sarri, with the new boss reiterating his club’s desire to sell him.
