Paulo Dybala and Tammy Abraham are major doubts to feature for Roma in Thursday’s Europa League play-off against RB Salzburg, but Lorenzo Pellegrini returns.

The first leg ended 1-0 in Austria and the return fixture is at the Stadio Olimpico.

Jose Mourinho is expected to be without both his star strikers going into this must-win game.

Dybala picked up a muscular issue during the first leg in Salzburg and today did not train with the rest of the squad, making it frankly unlikely he will make a miracle recovery over the next 48 hours, especially considering his delicate muscles and history of relapse injuries.

Abraham is a very different situation, as he needed stitches for a cut to his eyebrow, sustained after an accidental collision with his teammate Gianluca Mancini in the Serie A win over Hellas Verona on Sunday.

He could in theory play with the aid of a protective mask, but the stitches are in a very delicate spot and there is the concern that the mask could press on it or be too painful.

Abraham’s vision could also be impaired by the injury.
