Milan have been dealt a blow as defender Leo Duarte will be out for 3-4 months with a heel injury.

Duarte – a summer signing from Flamengo – had only just broken into Milan’s first team, starting four of their last seven games.

However, the 23-year-old missed the 1-1 draw with Napoli last weekend and the Rossoneri confirmed on their official website he had fractured the heel bone in his left foot.

He underwent surgery on Thursday and will be out for “3-4 months”, as per the club’s statement.

Milan were already short of centre-back options as Mattia Caldara is still weeks away from returning to full fitness.

The Brazilian’s setback could prompt them to resurrect their interest in Juventus defender Merih Demiral.
