Drogba has a contract with Montreal Impact until 2017 and earns €3m per season with bonuses tied to merchandising.

During the MLS off-season, which runs from December until March, it is not unusual for players to have loan spells in Europe and keep their fitness levels up.

During the MLS off-season, which runs from December until March, it is not unusual for players to have loan spells in Europe and keep their fitness levels up.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, Drogba would have the fast track to spending that time in Serie A for Bologna.

Canadian businessman Saputo owns both Bologna and Montreal Impact, but the Rossoblu are struggling at the foot of the table in Italy and one of their main problems is the lack of goals.

Drogba would be the ideal candidate to slot in and help secure their top flight status.

Meanwhile, Roberto Donadoni’s arrival on the Bologna bench has also opened the door to other intriguing January arrivals.

It’s reported he has asked Milan to take Jose Mauri and Antonio Nocerino, who both worked with the Coach at Parma, on loan for the rest of the season.

Suso and Andrea Poli are also options for loans after struggling for playing time at San Siro.
