Nikola Kalinic has been a revelation at Fiorentina and “personally lowered his transfer fee and wages,” said his agent.

The 27-year-old Croatia international made the move from Europa League Finalists Dnipro in August for €5.5m.

He made an immediate impact, scoring seven goals in 11 competitive games for the Viola.

“Nikola settled in very well in Florence, but maybe even he didn’t expect to have such a strong start,” agent Tomislav Erceg told gianlucadimarzio.com.

“Sousa called him on the phone and said the Viola would be challenging for the top positions. After that call, there wasn’t a moment in which Nikola didn’t want Fiorentina.

“He chose them because Sousa convinced him. Fiorentina expressed the desire to have him more than any of the other clubs who came forward.

“I can also confirm that Nikola personally lowered the cost of his transfer fee and wages in order to make the move to Fiorentina. He knew it was the right choice.

“Some Italian sides had approached him before, I remember five or six at the time he was at Hajduk Split, but nobody made the decisive push.”
