Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma defender Jorginho after the 0-0 draw against Switzerland. ‘In training, he always scores against me from the penalty spot’.

The Chelsea midfielder missed another penalty with the Azzurri shirt in the goalless stalemate against the Swiss in the World Cup Qualifiers on Sunday.

Switzerland 0-0 Italy: Jorginho penalty miss proves costly

Jorginho, who missed a penalty in the shootout against England at the Euros, stepped up after 53 minutes, but didn’t manage to score against Yann Sommer.

But Donnarumma defended the playmaker after the match and stressed everyone can make mistakes.

“I training we challenge each other, and he always scores,” Donnarumma told Swiss TV channel RSI.

“Unfortunately, he didn’t succeed tonight, but we all know he’s an incredible penalty taker. Unfortunately, he happened to miss.

“We will recover in a great way, we are a great group and this will take us very far.”

Donnarumma believes Italy will ‘make up for it’ in the upcoming games.

“In these games you must be concentrated until the end,” he continued. “It’s normal. When the ball doesn’t want to enter, you must be concentrated until it’s over.

“We had a great game in all departments and I’m convinced that in the next games we will make up for it.”
