Cagliari are reportedly ready to offer Diego Godin a new deal until June 2024 upon the player’s return from international duty with Uruguay.

Il Corriere dello Sport reports the Rossoblu are working on reaching an agreement with the centre-back, who seemed set for a move away from Sardinia this summer.

Godin arrived from Inter last year and reports in Italy suggested he would leave after only one season at the Sardegna Arena.

But the newspaper claims Cagliari are set to offer the Uruguayan veteran a new three-year deal with a salary spread over the next three years.

The Rossoblu have their offer ready, according to the report, and all that remains is to wait for the former Atletico Madrid defender’s return from international duty to formalise the agreement.

Godin arrived in Italy in July 2019 and has played 53 times in Serie A across spells with Cagliari and Inter.

  1. The 4 goals conceded vs Milan got the headlines, but I thought Godin was imperious. If not for him, Giroud would’ve had a hat trick and maybe even more. His physical tussle with Giroud reconfirmed Godin’s class, whilst also making some outstanding interceptions and good tackles.
