Bologna have reportedly agreed to sell Belgium international defender Arthur Theate to Rennes for €22m including add-ons, beating competition from Leicester City.

According to Sky Sport Italia, today’s meeting was enough to finalise the deal with their third proposal.

The first last week was €17m plus €2m in bonuses, while another proposal of €18m plus €2m add-ons was also rejected.

Now Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio announces a deal has been reached between the clubs for €20m plus €2m in bonuses.

The Belgium international was only purchased this summer for €6m after an initial one-season loan from KV Oostende.

The 22-year-old has three senior caps for Belgium and plays as a centre-back, but can also work on the left side of defence.

He made 31 Serie A appearances in his debut campaign, scoring two goals and providing one assist.

Leicester City had been hoping to step in with their own bid, but Rennes were determined to get their man after missing out on Kim Min-jae to Napoli from Fenerbahce.
