Massimo Donati sees no shame in losing to Milan, but admits that Palermo’s collapse by four goals to nil at the weekend was too much to take.

Donati, who had a spell with the Rossoneri earlier in his career, was involved for the Sicilians on Saturday night as a Zlatan Ibrahimovic hat-trick and Thiago Silva header pushed them aside with ease.

“Milan are a great team and we knew we were going to be playing one of the best teams in the world,” reflected Donati on Monday.

“A defeat against Milan we can take, but a 4-0 is a little too heavy.”

Even so, Donati sees some positives to take from the encounter.

“I want to thank the fans, even though we went to the dressing room after the final whistle because we were upset, we heard them.

“It meant that they appreciated our efforts. Milan are a world class team, but we made some mistakes.

“The defeat against the Rossoneri is one that may make us better, because it will help us to understand that we must always play at a high pace.

“The defeat to Siena, instead, is a game we are more frustrated about where we could have won, but things went wrong.

“Honestly, Milan were too strong. In the second half we tried to do better, but knew it would be very hard.”

The fixture list barely presents an opportunity to relax, however, as the Rosanero welcome Roma to the Renzo Barbera next Saturday.

“The Giallorossi are another big team. We can have our say, though, even if they boast several great players.

“We must forget the defeat against Milan and recover and work well.

“How do you win games? The important thing is to attack and defend with 11 men, because without the right determination you will still be in trouble.

“If we organise ourselves well and take advantage of spaces given to us, then we can have our say.”
