Roberto Donadoni says Cagliari's season was perhaps compromised by the January departure of Alessandro Matri.

The forward joined Juventus from the Sardinian outfit where he has scored eight goals to add to the 11 he netted at the Sant'Elia before his switch.

"It would have been useful for us to have another striker after Matri left and Nene was injured," the tactician noted.

Cagliari have been able to stay out of relegation trouble, but their form has slumped since Matri left.

The club have won just four League games since the Italian international moved to Turin and their end of season form has been described as "pathetic" by President Massimo Cellino.

Donadoni, though, despite just one win from the last 10, has been confirmed in his post for next term.

Matri is currently on loan at Juventus, who have the option to buy him outright for €15.5m.
