Bologna Coach Roberto Donadoni refuses to blame referee Fabio Maresca for his side’s defeat to Genoa.

The whistle-blower showed a straight red card to captain Daniele Gastaldello for making a disrespectful gesture towards him shortly before half time. Blerim Dzemaili was also sent off in the dying stages, meaning the Rossoblu ended the match with nine men.

“The referee has nothing to do with it,” Donadoni told reporters following the match. “I won’t use it as a means of protest or in order to get something in our favour next time.

“We were not very alert in the build up to the goal. This match should make us reflect.”

Bologna have ten points from seven Serie A matches as they head into the international break.
