Bologna boss Roberto Donadoni admits he “couldn’t say no” if asked to become Coach of Milan.

He spent most of his playing career with the Rossoneri jersey and was recently moved by the reception afforded to him by the San Siro crowd.

“Would I like to be Coach of Milan? How could I say no?” Donadoni told the Corriere dello Sport.

“I chose Milan as a player. My feelings have not changed. Juventus wanted me, and at that time they had a special rapport with Atalanta, but I followed my heart, as I’d supported Milan since childhood.

“Juve were winning every year at the time and Milan struggled to qualify for the UEFA Cup. After the first year I wondered to myself if I’d made a mistake.

“I still keep in touch with many of my teammates there, like Mauro Tassotti, while I vacation with Marco van Basten.”

Donadoni’s Bologna recently beat Milan at San Siro, but the fans gifted him a standing ovation.

“It was marvellous and I still get goosebumps thinking about it. Many of those fans probably didn’t even see me play, but they remember me.

“I would’ve gladly turned cartwheels on the pitch, but it wouldn’t have been a commendable reaction. I will never stop thanking San Siro for that moment of joy.”
