The French leftback has been one of the most consistent starters for the Giallorossi this season, though many believe he was disappointed to see his mentor Rudi Garcia being sacked.

“I came to Roma for the club and the project, not just for the Coach,” Digne told So Foot Club. “Though it's true that Garcia played an important role in my being signed here. Sometimes it happens that a Coach gets sacked that way, but he's significant to me.

“It's important and pleasant for me to play games of such a great level, whilst playing constantly every weekend. When you're up against people like [Leo] Messi and [Luis] Suarez it's hard, but that's the only way you can get better: by playing against the best.

“The first player I met here was Francesco Totti. He told the others to leave me alone. The group is compact and I integrated myself well.

“I'm not the only person here who speaks French, there are also [William] Vainqueur and [Miralem] Pjanic. We're like a big family, we eat and do stuff together.

“I learnt a little bit of Italian. That and a smatter of English allowed me to adapt.”

Digne was also asked about Totti and De Rossi, two icons who may leave their club at the end of this season.

“Nowadays it's rare to meet two players who stay in the same club for a long time. A player like Totti represents his club. Internationally, if you say Roma, you think of Totti, and if you say Totti, you think of Roma. The same goes for De Rossi.

“They are two leaders and all of the players listen to them when they speak. They push the group to stay at the top.

“[Paris Saint-Germain's] Maxwell? I'm in good terms with him. He gave me a lot of good advice and he's a model teammate.

“He used to come to training before everyone else, like a true professional. It's no coincidence that he's playing at these levels. His physical condition is better than that of many young players.”
