Fiorentina’s Gil Dias believes his side were ‘unlucky’ in last night’s 2-0 defeat to Juventus at the Artemio Franchi.

With the score goalless, the Viola were awarded a penalty – only for referee Marco Guida to chalk it off after a three-minute consultation with the VAR system.

The decision was reversed due to an apparent offside against Dias in the build up to Giorgio Chiellini’s handball, although it appeared Juve’s Alex Sandro touched the ball last before it reached the Portuguese winger.

“The penalty? I didn’t hear what the referee said, but for me it was a penalty because there was a touch by Alex Sandro,” Dias explained. “For me it was a penalty.

“In the first half we played very well. In the second half Juventus had two shots and scored two goals.

“We wanted to win for our fans, we know how important this match is for our fans.

“We are sad because we didn’t manage to do that.”

Dias struck the post in the first half as Fiorentina dominated their opponents.

“It was a good chance to score. If I had scored we would have seen a different match. We were unlucky.

“Against the big teams we have always done well, because the desire is there to do well.

“We need to do that in every match, regardless of the opposition.”
