Davide Di Michele has promised to save Lecce this season and stay at the club for the rest of his career.

The 35-year-old striker scored the opening goal in Lecce's crucial 2-1 win at Sampdoria on Sunday.

That victory lifted Lecce out of the relegation zone with six games of the season remaining.

Interviewed by Il Corriere dello Sport, Di Michele said: "It was an important goal.

"We needed a big win. I did my bit. That goal has given us courage and more confidence.

"We understood that we could and should play openly without fearing anything.

"It was a beautiful win above all if you look at the table today."

Asked about his own season, Di Michele said: "Right now I would give myself a seven and a half.

"I haven't played all the games because of injury. I enjoy playing.

"I'll give myself a 10 out of 10 if we survive. Not just me, but the entire team would deserve it too.

"I am happy here. I want to keep playing. I would stay here for life.

"We'll see but on a serious note, I'd like it. Lecce feels like home."
