La Gazzetta dello Sport understands that Galliani jokingly said: "Now then Alessandro, are you going to renew for €2.5m?"
The gag apparently didn't go down well, especially in light of reports that Milan have given Philippe Mexes a contract worth €4.5m a season.
Nesta is a key component of this Milan side and Coach Massimiliano Allegri is known to count on the player.
He had considered retiring at the end of the season, but insists another year isn't out of the question even if he can no longer play three games a week.
