Mattia Destro is happy with Italy’s qualification for World Cup 2014, but his priority for now remains returning to action with Roma.

The striker has broken into the plans of Azzurri boss Cesare Prandelli, but he’s had an injury plagued last six months following knee surgery.

“Qualification for Brazil was an important achievement and something to be proud of,” the former Siena man told Sky Sport Italia.

“A call-up for the tournament? Right now my primary aim is to get back into action. The championship will decide on whether I go to the World Cup or not.”

Italy booked their ticket for South America with wins over Bulgaria and the Czech Republic over the past week.

Boss Cesare Prandelli then insisted that his doors for a call-up were open to all – including veteran Roma idol Francesco Totti.

“Totti is doing some extraordinary things and he is a great champion,” Destro added. “I don’t know if he is competition for the World Cup, but he is a phenomenon.”
